The Process Of Creating a Workshop

It’s hard to face this mic.

Look at it.

Staring at me.

I really loved the Workshops idea.

Everything I learned in my life feels like a long self-workshop. Of learning, doing, failing and learning again.

I wanted to summarize the key topics as best as I could through brief workshops.

For new concepts to actually be understood at a deep level, there has to be an element of actually working through it so I made these little worksheets as well.

But it’s so fucking hard to face a mic.

Especially at the beginning because I’m just getting into this stuff.

Sometimes I wish creating content was just a nice stroll in the park.

I get an idea…I open my computer…I record or write it all in one take. And that’s that.

But that would kill all the fun.

Luckily I know that I just need to do it, and I’ll continue getting better at the process.

PLAN

  • The inspiration will come at some point.

    • It typically comes when I give myself some space (shower, writing, walking etc.), when I read something interesting, or when I talk to someone.

    • I don’t try to force it out but as soon as I get a faint idea, I make sure to document it somehow.

      • I’ll write it down, document it on my phone, or make an audio recording.

      • Or do all 3 at once, because each method expands the idea in it’s own way.

  • I’ll organize all of the ideas somewhere, and start creating a structure.

    • I have a ridiculous amount of Google Docs because I always start one for a new idea.

    • Afterwards I’ll group all of the similar ideas and notes into one document.

    • Then I’ll open another blank page, and process everything back and forth until it takes some form.

    • Eventually I’ll make my first draft and speak it out, making edits along the way.

Create

  • Write it down.

    • I’ll look at the entire doc of what I want to say, and write down the main points in paper.

      • It helps process everything in my brain when I write it down.

  • Time to record

    • I’ll only record when I feel like it.

      • When I plan to record something the next day, I’ll put some extra effort to get proper sleep, do my morning routine thingies, meditate before etc.

      • Because it’s very important for me to feel good and access the most creative state, in order to express myself as best as I can.

    • I’ll setup, and fist bump a picture of myself when I was 4 years old for some positive vibes.

    • I’ll fuck up at least 5-10 times. Eventually I’ll either laugh it off and loosen up, or get even more serious. At which point I’ll just stop.

    • I’ll aim for between 1-3 full recordings until I find one I like. If I record it too many times, then it will seem to rehearsed.

    • I might look back at it next day or next week, and hate it. Then I might record it again.

    • But eventually I feel like “yes…this is ready” and breathe a sigh of relief.

And that’s a brief overview of what it’s like to record one workshop.
