In case you prefer to read

So, like everyone else in the world, I’ve faced many challenges throughout my life.

I’ve only ever had two choices:

  1. First was to complain, blame myself, blame something else

  2. Second, was to use those challenges.. as an opportunity to grow.

The more challenges I had,

The more opportunities I had to grow.

Because if I solved the equation once, I can use the same process to solve it again.

My response to the challenge, was always a choice.

Now everything I’ve shared in the first few chapters, built an internal foundation within me.

A foundation that strengthened my mind, so that every challenge, I was able to zoom out once in a while, and realize that, okay, this is another challenge to overcome.

“I've seen this before. This is just a bit different.”

Another opportunity to grow.

“How do I do it this time?”

This is what helped me develop Anti-Fragility, before I even knew what the term meant.

I realized that this was so important, because I became stronger after every challenge.

Anti-fragility is something I’ve seen common with the most successful people I’ve ever met.

  • Because they can turn a weakness, into a strength

  • And they can turn a bad situation into a good one

So I’m going to share two of the biggest challenges that I was faced with:

One was personal, and the other was related to my dad's business.

The first one, was the first, major, bad thing that I had to deal with.

It was my stutter that I developed at around 5 years old, and managed to overcome just a few years ago.

Kids would always point it out, because they're assholes and it's funny

My parents friends would always comment on it.

And that’s just how it is man.

Everyone has shortcomings and challenges.

And most people are assholes about it.

But all of the incredibly embarrassing moments that I experienced from it, built up inside me.

And eventually they became my fuel to overcome this thing,

Because I never wanted to experience those feelings again.

Eventually, I decided that I had to start from scratch.

And work on my anxiety and social skills from a grassroots level.

This was even before I got into self development.

I use to go to malls in Canada and just start small.

Walking around, asking questions to people that worked there, and building confidence.

I found exercises to do every day.

I worked on my breathing, and my fitness.

Sleep helped.

It was a holistic effort.

It wasn’t one magical thing that helped me overcome my biggest challenge.

It was many smaller things, in different areas.

One step at a time.

I feel that … its like this for many things.

A holistic effort to develop self-awareness, to work on your health, to connect with more people.

And I realized the more I got outside of my comfort zone, the quicker I grew.

The faster I started to overcome it.

And the less shits I gave.

I think the same formula can be applied to many other challenges.

The most important thing is to make a holistic plan to tackle these different areas.

But the main thing I learned from that point onwards, was that no matter situation I’m in, I can always choose, to flip it around, by accepting where I am, writing it down, and taking small steps to address it.

This came in handy, for the other biggest challenge I’ve faced so far.

Once I was 3 years into self-development, I started working in what I thought was my dream job.

I was leading a well rounded life, had hobbies that I loved, and I was happy all round.

But one area I always, always felt incomplete with, was that I wasn’t able to help my dad with his business.

In 2014, he invested everything he had to purchase some land, and start a hotel development project. It was always his dream to develop so grand and real.

And a few years into it, they found that there were an outrageous amount of design issues, and this stopped all of the progress, because it took so much effort, coordination and additional money to even solve one of them, but there over 280 by the end of it.

So at that time, he asked me to leave my job one day and find a way to help.

And even though I had no idea what to do, what construction is, and how I can help, I knew that I had to do it.

I’ve been through periods where I didn’t know what I was doing, but just trusting myself always worked out.

So after that, I fully immersed myself into a large construction site every day for 1.5 years.

I wont get in to the construction details, but this period of my life still feels very surreal.

When people ask about it, I never know how to explain what the experience was like.

There were 123 rooms, a lobby, a gym, a pool, a basement , god damn elevators, a complicated kitchen, and an entire banquet hall.

I felt that all of the responsibility was on my shoulders, because I had access to everything.

And I determined the speed at which it got done.

I couldn’t believe how many down moments we had to face every day.

There were so many people involved.

But during those times when things were harder than ever, it came down to the same process to resolve it:

  1. First, ask myself the question, “what is my purpose”. It was family. This is what I cared the most about.

  2. Second, was to trust the process that always worked for me.

    - Make a plan, take small steps, reflect. And repeat.

And after 1.5 years, we somehow managed to complete it.

Just in time for March 2020, when we were given a pandemic to deal with.

But this time, we were more equipped to handle it.

With that said,

One of the saddest things for me to see, is how many people doubt themselves, and their ability to change.

They tell themselves that they aren’t important, but they are, everyone is!

But over the past few years and decades, more and more people have been realizing how much they can change within themselves, and how powerful they can become

They learn that we have the ability to think critically, to take small steps to improve our lives, to help others, and to navigate this wild world.

We just need to think less, but deeper. We need to do more, we need to express ourselves more, we need to share who we are to the world

If I can do it, I know anyone can,

And I also know that this message isn’t being heard by someone who isn’t ready to hear it.

If you’re listening to this, you are already on the path.

You’re discovering it, you’re starting to do new things, you’re reading, you’re starting to take care of yourself, but the rest of the path looks very long, very confusing, very vague.

I've lived that whole phase of my life out

All I want to do, is clear up that path as best as I can for anyone else.

Because by this point, the only thing stopping you most likely, are some distractions and small fears.

I believe that at all times,

We are either distracting ourselves, or facing ourselves

Most people are definitely distracted, because there’s just too much of it.

But everyone has, evolution within them, that they need to face.

And how I evolved, was to be aware of my distractions, and take small steps forward.

Same thing as I mentioned in the first few chapters.

Develop self awareness, then take care of your health.

Everything else figures itself out from that effort.

It’s a 2 step process to overcoming any challenge in your way:

  1. Believe that it is possible

  2. Take Action

Put a bit more practically.

  1. Develop your Mindset

  2. Take small steps

Put a bit differently.

  1. Trust your Intuition

  2. And Execute.

1,2. 1,2. 1,2.

And then you push through the unknown.

You start taking those small steps, you fail, and then you realize that failure is there for a reason.

“What do I need to learn from this?”

Then get back up and do it again.

Its a process.

  1. Have a plan

  2. Take Small Steps

  3. Reflect

  1. Tweak your plan a bit

  2. Take more small steps, maybe in a slightly different direction, but with more purpose and a bit more clarity this time,

  3. Reflect deeper

Repeat.

That is what I believe it takes, to become Antifragile.

And to grow from any challenge you’re faced with along this path.

Because at the end of the day, no matter what we are faced with, our only choice is to accept it and make the most out of the situation

Freedom is not something that many people experience, because humanity since the beginning has just been about survival, if you go outside and just look at what's going on, it's all survival

But the ability and access for freedom has been made

  • My parents sacrificed so much for me to have an education group in such an incredible country

  • So many creators have sacrificed their entire lives to learn for us and create meaningful pieces

Technology has made this all accessible

So it’s my privilege to use these blessings to overcome the challenges that I’m faced with, and just continue to grow and evolve.
